Short Stories by Munshi Premchand from ronaldpatricka's blog

The characters in his stories not only help you see the world from their perspective but also take you on their journey altogether. Dhanpat Rai Srivastav created a pseudonym for himself, which he named “Premchand,” who still speaks through his short stories, poems, etc. His excellence is quite clear in his Urdu and Hindi social fiction. Moreover, he came into the spotlight after he talked about caste hierarchies. His works towards highlighting the miserable fate of hapless laborers and women in the 1880s were widely acknowledged and gained significant attention.

Stories worth remembering

From “Kafan” to “Do Bailon Ki Katha” and “Poos Ki Raat” to “Eidgaah,” short stories by Munshi Premchand are somewhat hard to forget. The simplicity in his writing and diversity of characters propelled him to become one of the most memorable writers that India has ever produced. He released a collection of stories in 1907 that included 5 stories, and they were released with the title “Soz-E-Watan.” Short stories by Munshi Premchand hold a special place in the heart of children who are taught such stories in schools.

Munshi Premchand used to highlight the real-life situations in his writings and brought a lot of issues to the attention of readers that were somewhat either ignored or forgotten. He favored realism and reflected on the acute poverty that people lived in amid pervasive discrimination. His rationalistic outlook helped to understand what it was like to live under the tyrannical rule of unscrupulous owners who severely exploited the oppressed. Short stories by Munshi Premchand triggered a sense of awareness among the masses and addressed the social issues profoundly.

Wave of Patriotism

Premchand’s “Duniya Ka Sabse Anmol Ratan” was highly acclaimed by the readers as it talked about the last drop of blood that was needed to gain independence. His works heavily explored nationality, and most of them had a patriotic essence. All such short stories were a direct reflection of the Indian independence movements that went rampant around that time period.
