“I learned how to ski in sweatpants under rain pants and a hoodie under a coat because that’s what I had,” Vélez said. “But when I was ready to upgrade, nothing fit.”

Around the same time she was learning to ski, the Denver resident also learned to sew. She said she was tired of buying jeans that never fit, and attended a pattern-making school to learn how to make her own.

During her time there in 2018, she took a course on the history of fashion and brand development. She was assigned to create a clothing brand with an eight-piece apparel line. That’s when she came up with the idea for Alpine Parrot, an outdoor apparel company for plus-size women.

“Outdoor brands don’t show people of size in any of their advertising. So, it makes you think, ‘Oh, I’m just the weirdo who likes to ski and doesn’t fit into anything,’” Vélez said. “And this creates a whole chicken before the egg problem where because people don’t see plus-size people being represented in the industry, they don’t think they exist.”But in my research, I found so many communities of people online who might be bigger but love going outdoors, whether for skiing, white water rafting, hiking or fishing, and can’t find any gear that fits them. So, I knew there was this untapped market.”

Last month, she launched Alpine Parrot’s first product, a pair of plus-size women’s hiking pants called Ponderosa Pants, through a Kickstarter campaign. In the first three hours, she reached her $10,000 goal and doubled it in eight hours. As of Tuesday, she has raised $52,139 from 429 backers. In the next two days of the campaign, she hopes to hit $60,000.

“I wanted to use Kickstarter to send a message to the outdoor industry in a public way, since they often neglect people of size and color, and show big name brands that customers like me do exist,” Vélez said. “And I think our message has been sent loud and clear, so it will be interesting to see how brands respond. I’m starting where other people are just trying to catch up.”

The Ponderosa Pants, which retail for $139 on Alpine Parrot’s website, range from size 14 to size 24 and come in sage green and slate gray. They are made with quick-drying, abrasion-resistant UPF-40 fabric and feature a built-in belt, five pockets, an adjustable cuff to convert them into capris and a carabiner loop.

“Although I had initially wanted to make ski pants, I decided to first launch hiking pants because the ski industry is super tiny compared to the general outdoors industry,” Vélez said.

The Ponderosa Pants also come in two fit styles, the “Mountain fit” and the “River fit.” The Mountain fit is best for bodies with a smaller waist than hips, while the River fit is best for those with similar waist and hip measurements, she said.

EVERYTHING CHANGING IN THE WOW CLASSIC TBC PRE-PATCH

While we don’t know the full extent of the changes Blizzard has planned for TBC Classic, we know what’s coming and changing for Classic with the pre-patch. One of the most anticipated changes for the pre-patch is the new talents and skills coming to most classes. It’s fair to say that some specs don’t quite feel ready in Classic, and, for the most part, TBC fixes a lot of those issues. For the pre-patch, every spec will get another two rows of talents in each tree, with most gaining a new final skill and improvements to the previous end talent.

Above are two examples of this for Paladins (for Horde players this is all new so get doubly excited). In the Protection Paladin tree, you’ll see Paladin’s gain one of their most iconic abilities, Avenger’s Shield. Finally, after two years of body pulling mobs Paladins are finally able to pull in style. The other new addition is the Classic end of row spells getting an improved version. Above is an example for Paladins, Holy Shield was vital to Paladin tanking in Classic, and the improved version in TBC is only going to cement the class as a key player in any dungeon group.
It’s finally the time for Paladins and Shamans to cross the faction lines. With the introduction of Blood Elfs and Draenei (more on them next), both factions are finally able to experience the other side’s secret weapon. While it was always a fun gimmick through Classic, it probably left the faction war slightly lopsided.

While Shamans were, and still remain a strong class, Paladins gave the Alliance access to another tanking class, something sorely lacking in Classic. Their inclusion is limited to just the new factions, they’ll no doubt have a major impact on the meta.One major change for TBC Classic from its original is that Alliance and Horde Paladins will both have access to each faction Seal spells. In a slightly controversial call back when TBC was released, each faction was given a faction-specific Seal. For the Horde that was Seal of Blood (shown above), for the Alliance Seal of Vengeance. While they both look fine on paper, Seal of Blood was around 15% strong for pure DPS, making Horde Paladins the far superior option. Note that Seal of Blood is called Seal of the Martyr for Alliance Paladins.

TBC finally gave each faction what it was looking for most. A new race that looked like it fit better on the opposite faction. Horde gains the pretty and self-important Blood Elfs, while Alliance gains the space cow race, Draenei. For a lot of people, these two races were what made them join their friends. Many Horde players finally had a way to convince friends to join them now that the Horde had a “pretty” race. While the Alliance finally had a hulking giant on their side (at least the male Draenei).

The good news for those looking to join the TBC party is that both races will come to the game in the pre-patch, and not at the TBC launch like they did back when it was released. It looks like Blizzard has learned that people want to play with their friends as soon as possible. Rather than spend an expansion launch leveling from level 1 to 60 to catch up.

Other classes that would work well as kyrians include WoW: Shadowlands' Monks, a group of honorable and even-tempered fighters, as well as Holy Priests, who dedicate their life to healing others and worshipping the purity of the light.

The Necrolords, who inhabit Maldraxxus in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, serve as the army and defense force within the Shadowlands, and as such their ranks are made up of those who thirst for battle, both in life and in death. Despite the reputation that Maldraxxus might garner as an evil place, plenty of noble spirits can find a home with the Necrolords. The Necrolords of Maldraxxus value bravery above all else, and must be prepared, if called to action, to defend the Shadowlands.

The most obvious fit for Shadowlands' Necrolords are Warriors. Warriors are career soldiers that are not afraid to solve problems using their weapons. The Necrolords appreciate bravery above all else, and having a veteran of either the Alliance or Horde on their side would be welcome. Death Knights can also find a home in Maldraxxus, since they have many similar qualities to the Warrior and have shown a willingness to put themselves in danger to fight for Azeroth. They have the added benefit of controlling the undead, something that meshes well with the many necromancers that inhabit Maldraxxus.

Lastly, although they are not an exact fit, Mages may find that the powerful liches and sorcerers in Maldraxxus are worthy of their abilities. Not every fighter in World of Warcraft needs to wield a weapon, and the potent frost magic of a Mage would certainly fit the Necrolords aesthetic
