Overlook:Early Tuesday morning
Drake
Batherson Face Mask, The Ottawa Senators and San Jose Sharks finalized a
deal sending LW Mike Hoffman, defense prospect Cody Donaghey and the Sens 2020
5th round pick to the Sharks in return for LW Mikkel Boedker, defense prospect
Julius Bergman and the Sharks 2020 6th round selection. Both Hoffman and Boedker
have 2 years remaining on their contracts, with Hoffman earning an AAV of
$5,187,500 as opposed to Boedker's AAV of $4 Million. (CapFriendly) Both players
are slated to become unrestricted free agents on July 1st, 2020.Analysis:To
break down this trade
https://www.ottawafansstore.com/Jack_Kopacka_T_shirt-37,
I've divided it into 3 segments. Roster players, prospects, and draft picks.
Mike Hoffman vs. Mikkel BoedkerHoffman has topped 20 goals in each of his past
four seasons, as well as 50 points in his past three seasons in the nations
capital. This makes him a significantly better scorer than Mikkel Boedker.
Boedker has never topped 20 goals in the NHL, and has a career high of 51 points
from his 2013-14 campaign with the Phoenix Coyotes. Boedker has 288 points in
618 games, which averages out to 38 points over an 82 game season. Both players
are at 28 years of age, meaning it would be unreasonable to expect Boedker to
all of a sudden become more than a middle six player. This trade wouldn't have
happened however, if it weren't for the cyber bullying/harassment allegations of
Hoffman's girlfriend

While there is are still many details we do not know, it is important that
Ottawa is getting rid of a problem player that deters locker room chemistry. It
is also important to note how good of a character Boedker is. "He is very active
with Coyotes Charities. Whether its giving back to season ticket holders or
helping improve the poorer parts of Arizona, Mikkel is always happy to help." -
Adam Pierce, Howlin' HockeyPerhaps Boedker could fill the void in the Capital
City Condors organization left when the team traded away Kyle Turris in
November. Cody Donaghey vs. Julius BergmanDonaghey was acquired by the Senators
from the Maple Leafs' in the Dion Phaneuf trade. After fininshing a junior
career that saw him suit up for Six(!) different QMJHL teams, Donaghey had an
uneventful Rookie pro season. He spent the majority of the season playing for
Belleville's ECHL affiliate, Brampton Beast. He posted a mere 16 points in 54
games, and managed his way into a single contest for the B-Sens. While he is
still only 22 years of age, it is unlikely he would have ever played a game in
Ottawa, and it is still unlikely he will ever make the NHL for that matter
Marcus
Hogberg Pillow Cover. Bergman however, was a Second round pick of the Sharks
in 2014. Also 22 years of age, Bergman has posted 30 and 20 points respectively
in each of his previous 2 AHL campaigns. As a Right Handed defenseman, Bergman
slots behind Karlsson, Ceci, and UFA Chris Wideman on Ottawa's thin right side.
Expect him to compete with Christian Jaros for Ottawa's first call up next
season. 5th vs. 6th Round PickObviously Pierre Dorion and Sharks' GM Doug Wilson
determined that picks needed to be swapped to balance the value
https://www.ottawafansstore.com/Colin_White_T_shirt-8,
and that's exactly what they did. This is practically a wash, although Ottawa
could move down as many as 62 spots, they will likely still have a handful of
their personal top 100 available when they select in the 6th round. A small
price to pay to even out the return. ConclusionWhile it is likely San Jose will
be perceived as the winner or this trade, because they are getting the best
player, Sens fans should be alright with that. Ottawa gets rid of a "locker room
cancer" and replaces him with a player capable of playing similar minutes, while
producing at a 2/3rds the rate. San Jose fans should be happy as well. The last
"toxic" player they traded for in Evander Kane exceeded their expectations, and
perhaps Hoffman will do the same for them. Overall, this is a trade that needed
to happen for Ottawa
Micheal Haley
Face Mask, and while the value might be a little bit uneven, it's not worth
getting too worked up about as the Sens are receiving a quality player in
return, with great character, and perhaps Boedker can become a fan favouritte.
