While the bid timer was counting down, timepieces were climbing in price as buyers raced to outbid each other in one of Antiquorum's ten annual auctions of rare watches and other timekeeping devices.

Held in New York on September 20, 2006, this was Antiquorum's first Fall auction of that year, and topping the list of items in demand was an 18K yellow gold men's wristwatch manufactured by Patek Philippe, Geneva, which garnered more than $400,000.

One Rolex model, though not in the top ten, did fetch $24,000, which was a record of sorts for the manufacturer. This wristwatch, a stainless steel SBS Submariner in the Oyster Perpetual line, was created for naval divers in Britain's Special Boat Service.

Other Patek Philippe watches drew in the top five bids of the auction. The watchmaker's "10-Day Set," crafted in honor of the year 2000, placed in the number-two spot; followed by a platinum/diamond water-resistant wristwatch that went for just under $205,000. The Celestial, an 18K white gold watch, commanded more than $180,000, and an early stainless steel wristwatch with register and tachometer drew just over $169,000.
